5 Books to Ignite Your Passions

5 Books to Ignite Your Passions

Hello fellow bookworm and dreamer! This list has been carefully curated from my collection of all time favorite books. This selection will take you on journeys that will untangle the mysteries of your soul, make you laugh until you cry and leave you with a burning desire to follow your dreams. Also, all of these books are quick reads , the longest being 700 pages plus the appendix. Ha kidding, the longest is 232 pages with a majority of my picks not reaching 200 pages. So, if you need a little boost to get you moving in the right direction, read on!

#5 Steering by Starlight by Martha Beck

This is the book that inspired me to become a life coach and eventually sign up for Martha Beck’s Wayfinder Life Coach training program. There are many times that I found it hard to finish self help books but Beck uses stories and real life experiences to illustrate her points often finding humor in places that can be very dark. She is after all, talking about the inner workings of our brain. Martha Beck leverages her formal eduction, including a Ph.D. from Harvard and her experience as one of the most prolific life coaches to teach readers the phycology behind behaviors and thoughts, why they can become traps and how to over come them. After reading this book, you will be able to banish away negative thoughts so that you can find and live your true path.

#4 The Max Strategy by Dale Dauten

I was assigned this book as part of a leadership class that I took while getting my MBA and it was a catalyst for my career transformation although I didn’t realize it at the time. It’s a business book written in a story format, making it a quick and highly rewarding read. While every single word is worth hanging on to, the one thing that I took away from the book is that if you want your life to change, you have to do something different everyday. After taking this advice, I learned changing one small thing each day can be incredibly powerful in the long term.

#3 The Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz

If you are looking to find inner peace, read this book. Miguel Ruiz challenges the way we blindly follow Western society constructs. We are unknowingly following a prescription of habits and behaviors that make us unhappy. Ruiz masterfully diagnoses the problems, illustrates why it is hard for us to see them, then gives us Four Agreements to help overcome internal challenges. The book blends Toltec Wisdom and storytelling to craft powerful messages. This is a book that I find myself picking up again and again when I need a boost of motivation and happiness.

#2 You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

Hysterical! I could not stop laughing as I read this book. Sincero has mastered the art of making her readers outrageously happy while showering them in self worth. I have at least 30% of the pages dog-eared so I can go back and re-read my favorite passages whenever I need a good-humored kick in the pants. The chapters are short and bursting with colorful anecdotes. It only took 2 or 3 sittings to finish this book and it inspired me to get focused on my path, put myself out there and start marketing my coaching services in a meaningful way. It also has a litany of practical advice that will lift your spirits while inspiring you to start following your dreams.

#1 The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

This is my all time favorite book. It inspired me to make the move from Arkansas to New York City and subsequently increase my standard of living cost by three times — it was the best decision I ever made. Once you read this book, you will understand why one would trade a simple life to drive over an hour each way to work, spend 2 hours shoveling snow off of my car after a blizzard and haul 20 pounds of laundry up and down a 4th floor walk up. Living in NYC was the best time of my life and part of my soul’s path. Thank you Paulo Coehlo for being a fountain of inspiration to me. Read this book to find the alchemy in your dreams. It will give you the courage, strength and hope you need to go after what you want.

It is my hope that you enjoyed this list and read the books that resonate with you. Please tell me some of your favorite books in the comments below. Reading is an absolute joy for me and I am constantly on the hunt for good ones to read.
